The More Presidents Change...

Michael Klare, a professor of peace and world security studies at Hampshire College, a TomDispatch regular, and author most recently of The Race for What's Left: The Global Scramble for the World's Last Resources, talks about the current administration's foreign policy objectives as they relate to the control of global energy resources and how little difference there is between Obama's energy policies and those of his predecessors.

Sad, I find, how poorly educated US presidents are for their responsibilities! Barack Obama, said to be highly intelligent, was ill equipped for his roles in dealing with the massive frauds and consequent failure of the financial sector or the aggressive occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. He could not advocate appropriately stimulative federal programs to create jobs and economic demand. His foreign policies have continued those of Bush and Cheney, as Mr Klare tells us. We might just as well have had a nincompoop in the W-H as a bright but ignorant and therefore timorous Obama! A empty brain is not a good brain, no matter how excellently it is wired.

Hasn't anyone woken up? The president is simply a frontman for the real power brokers. That's why even as presidents change, policies remain the same, and even intensify in their rapacity. Does anyone still believe that one man can run a country of 300 million and most of the world?
The president takes his orders from corporate, industrial and financial powers who hide behind the curtain of "democracy" and "presidential leadership". If a president tries to change the game, he is removed, as was Kennedy.
And the bad news is, they can't be stopped.
